Programmes:
1. Mother -child training programme: A programme that provides an environment where mothers work with their children under experienced and trained individuals.
Here, the mothers are taught to train their children in group activities to learn waiting, turn taking and joint attention.
Intensive one on one sessions are also carried on to forward the individual education plan (IEP) of each child.
It also focuses on building social interaction, pretend play and other social skills.
Teaching self help is also an important feature of this programme.
The programme has been started to build each child’s skills for inclusion in mainstream schools and/or vocational setups.
The MCT has been an online service since 2020.
2. We also run an all year round classroom for the children who are from Jalandhar and neighbouring areas. Our approach in training is holistic, concentrating on the all around development of the child.
We use the highly effective techniques of ABA /VBA methods for behaviour management and speech building.
We also use PECS, signs and facilitated communication methods.
The classrooms are structured to build independence and reduce anxiety following the tenets of TEACCH.
Where needed RDI and Sonrise method techniques are also incorporated.
Evening intervention sessions are also a part of this service.
Great stress is laid on physical fitness too.
Learning self-help skills(toilet training, bathing, etc,) are considered an important part of a child’s complete development.
An OT designs the monthly sensory plans for the children.
3.Vocational training : We at SOCH lay great stress on the vocational training of the children . This is to provide them with a permanent means of livelihood so they may get a feeling of dignity and self worth. Products made by the children if SOCH are diligently logged down by them and each child/adult is paid for the work done. All at SOCH are given an opportunity to polish their skill and at the same time remain motivated to work through regular pay
During 2020 Lockdown too safe work from home environments were created and the vocational work carried on from home fulfilling many orders.

4.Workshops: We educate schools and the medical fraternity to increase awareness through presentations and workshops. As mentioned above parent empowerment and training is an important feature at SOCH.
We regularly hold training workshops for the caregivers/ teachers / peers  and in this endeavour we have been supported by the medical and educational fraternity across the nation and visiting resource persons from abroad too.
